LTD plans regular bus service New Year's Eve

Lane Transit District will operate regular weekday service on Wednesday, New Year's Eve.

The last departure from the Eugene Station, 10th and Willamette streets, will be at 10:45 p.m. On New Year's Day, the district will provide the typical Sunday service level. Phone 687-5555.

AARP offering driver safety courses in January

The AARP driver safety program will offer driver education classes at several locations during January.

The driver safety course has been designed for motorists 50 and older, but is now open to all ages. It is intended to help drivers sharpen their skills and avoid crashes and citations.

The course is taught in two four-hour sessions over two days. The cost is $14, with a $2 discount to AARP members with their membership number. There are no tests.

Classes are scheduled for:

Learn how to manage, share digital photos

The Eugene Public Library will hold a class on managing and sharing digital photos. The classes will be held 4 p.m. Jan. 11 and 10 a.m. Jan. 24.

Participants will learn how to upload and download photos, send photos by e-mail and how to use the free Web site Flickr to create online albums.

Library invites teens to play video games

The Library Meeting Room at Springfield Public Library will be open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday for teens to play video games.

Teens ages 13 to 18 can play Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution and Wii Sports. Refreshments will be provided.

City seeks applicants for budget committee

The city of Springfield is seeking applications for two open positions on its budget committee. The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, with interviews scheduled for Jan. 26. The appointment by the City Council will be made Feb 2.

Application forms are available in the City Manager's Office in City Hall, 225 Fifth St., during regular business hours.

The budget committee reviews the city's financial plans and policies, including the annual budget. The 12-member committee consists of the six elected city councilors and six members from the community. Appointed by the City Council, each of the committee's community members must live in the ward they represent. Meetings are typically held between April and June, but the committee may also meet on an "as needed" basis.

Applicants are sought to represent Wards 3 and 4 and will serve a term expiring on Dec. 31, 2011.
