NSW: Police defend search for Leo

Police have defended their search for a two-year-old boy who was found unconscious
in a car more than two hours after it was stolen.

LEO NGUYEN later died from the effects of heat stress.

The toddler had been left by his mother in the back seat of her black BMW outside the
supermarket in Cabramatta at 1 pm (AEDT) when the thieves struck.

Superintendent JOHN SWEENEY, from Cabramatta police, has told Channel Nine he doesn't
know if the Polair helicopter was used in the search.

However, he says the helicopter had been contacted.

The car was found abandoned nearly two-and-a-half hours later, five blocks from where
it was stolen.

Superintendent SWEENEY has praised the efforts of officers involved in the search.

A search is still under way for those involved in the theft, and police are appealing
for any information from the public.
